“We have been coming to Crestwood for over 12 years and six dogs. We love the family-quality of attention we get from all the vets. Thanks everybody!” •Pam Milligan‚ Stella & Phoebe
Exotic Pet Care: One of Our Specialties at Crestwood Animal Hospital
Exotic pets don’t get much attention at most vets. However, at Crestwood Animal Hospital, we have a full range of services available to treat exotic furry, feathered, and scaly pets, primarily provided by Dr. Teresa Gregory. Among the exotic pets that we see regularly are birds, rabbits, chinchillas, ferrets, hedgehogs, snakes, lizards, sugar gliders, various rodents, and small farm animals. The care for these exotic species is very different from cats and dogs and isn’t often widely known. Whether it is housing or nutrition, these basics are the key to keeping exotic pets healthy.
As with dogs and cats, we think in terms of long-term wellness and care for your exotic pets. However, exotics can present special challenges. For instance, even more so than dogs and cats, they instinctively try to hide health problems. That is why we recommend periodic examinations to detect potential problems before they become too serious to reverse or slow down.
New exotic pets should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to make sure your animal is healthy. Especially when you have existing pets, it is critical to have them examined prior to exposing them to your established group of pets. Crestwood Animal Hospital also provides surgical services for exotics when needed.
