Responsible Kitten Care Starts With Your First Visit to Crestwood Animal Hospital
Watching kittens play is an amazing and humorous experience. As with most animal companions, kittens need extra attention to start their life off right so that they become healthy, well-adjusted adult cats. A thorough exam and series of vaccinations is recommended as soon as you adopt your adorable new kitten. Parasite prevention and vaccines against infectious diseases are critical aspects of preventive medicine in kittens.
Addressing proper litter training, play behaviors, kitten-proofing, and normal cat behaviors are just a few of the topics we discuss with you during the kitten visits. Every new kitten gets a kitten kit with a free bag of high quality food, a dose of heartworm and flea prevention, and extra education to help you and your new kitten get off on the right paw. Spaying and neutering is recommended between the ages of 4–6 months. Declawing can be performed even earlier if needed, but is recommended by the age of 6 months to limit the discomfort your kitten may have after the procedure.
Remember, it is important to have your new family member examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible, perhaps even before going home for the first time. That way, if your pet carries any diseases or parasites, we can identify and treat them, reducing or eliminating the exposure risk for other pets and people. On your first pet care visit please remember to bring any medical records you may have on your new pet.
