“After searching for an exotic vet for years to help our sugar glider‚ Badger who was having serious gum/teeth issues. I finally found exactly what he needed with the staff at Crestwood Animal Hospital. All of you make an awesome team” •Bridget Dorcas & Badger
General Veterinary Surgery Services for Crestwood KY Pets
The veterinarians at Crestwood Animal Hospital are skilled and experienced with all types of soft-tissue surgery, including spay and neuter, dental surgery, removal of growths, oncological (cancer) surgery, cystotomy, wound repair, and more. We also provide selective orthopedic and cruciate surgery services. Cruciate surgery restores the functioning of an animal’s knee when a cruciate ligament has ruptured. Left untreated, it can lead to painful arthritis and reduce an animal’s ability to move.
Prior to surgery, we recommend blood work to assess overall health and make sure it is safe to proceed with anesthesia. An intravenous catheter is placed to maintain hydration levels with fluids before, during, and after surgery. Using ECG, pulse oximeter, and, sometimes, Doppler blood pressure equipment, we make sure your pet is carefully monitored throughout the surgical process. The surgeon evaluates each pet prior to surgery and the safest anesthetic protocol is chosen.
Most routine surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, and you may take your pet home the same day. However, some procedures require an overnight stay so that we can monitor your pet’s recovery.
Before your appointment, please fill out the Surgical Consent Form. Alternatively you can download the Surgical Consent Form, fill it out as completely as you can and bring it with you to your appointment.
During your pet’s surgery admission appointment, you will be provided with a phone number for direct access to the surgical technician monitoring your pet. When the surgery is complete, a member of our staff will call you to provide an update. You will also be provided with detailed written instructions for home care.
In addition to our veterinarian’s surgical work, Crestwood Animal Hospital is pleased to have Dr. Teresa Gregory available. Dr. Gregory has extensive experience in surgery for "exotic" animals, including, but not limited to, ferrets, rabbits, birds, reptiles, hamsters, rats, and even sugar gliders.
